The MySQL Extension is Deprecated And Will Be Removed From PHP Programming
PHP has support MySQL since version 2.0 through mysql_ extension. Began that time, the developer uses a combination of MySQL and PHP to create their applications. But unfortunately, since 2006, this extension does not change or addition of features at all. So although this feature can be quite stable over a period of time, the code is out of date it will be difficult to be updated or amended in order to follow the development era. To that end, the PHP version 5.5 (the latest version), if you are still using mysql_ functions, it will display an error warning deprecated (E_DEPRECATED). Which means that the feature will be removed in the next version.
PHP provides an alternative that can be used if you still want to use MySQL as the database. There are two extension, MySQLi (MySQL Improved) and PDO MySQL. For those of you who still like the procedural style, then MySQLi is perfect but for you who love the style of OOP (Object Oriented Programming), then use the PDO MySQL. Both of these extensions will continue to be improvised by the PHP so that its use can be as easy mysql_ function that will be removed.
So, for those of you who still use mysql_ functions, immediate migration to MySQLi or PDO MySQL. Hopefully this information is useful. What do you think? Come share in the comments …
